How the numbers are worked out

Wax cost = wax oz ÷ 16 × wax price per lb.
Fragrance cost = (wax oz × load %) ÷ 16 × fragrance price per lb. The load is measured against wax weight, the most common method.
Materials per candle = wax + fragrance + wicks + jar + lid + labels + packaging.
Labor per candle = batch hours × hourly rate ÷ number of candles.
Total cost = materials + labor + overhead.
Wholesale = total cost × wholesale multiplier. Retail = wholesale × retail multiplier.

The 2× / 2× rule is a common starting point for handmade goods, not a rule you must follow. Compare with prices of similar candles in your market and adjust. Remember marketplace and payment fees come out of the retail price.
